The following is a list of permission levels used in the Atomwide support site along with an outline of what these permissions allow users to access.
Permission type |
Explanation |
|---|---|
Filtering Administrator Configurable by the Service Desk |
This refers to a school-level Web Filtering Administrator who can set filtering policy for an individual school only. School filtering administrators can decide to allow or block certain sites or keywords for the school. They can also create different policies for different users that can be applied at different times of the day or days of the week. This permission level is likely to be granted to a school's Nominated Contact.
|
LA Filtering Administrator By default, configurable by the Service Desk |
An LA-level web filtering administrator is able to set the filtering policy for the entire LA as well as for schools on an individual basis. The LA filtering administrators have the ability to decide which, if any, schools should have local filtering enabled but can over-ride filtering policy decisions made at the school level if necessary. This permission level can be added to a Super or Power User's profile by the Service Desk only.
|
LA Headteacher Proxy By default, configurable by the Service Desk |
An LA advisor's profile can be configured carry out certain actions on behalf of any Head Teacher in the LA when the LA Headteacher Proxy permission is enabled.
A Head Teacher is responsible for a school's MIS data and therefore needs to authorise the release of this data to third parties. If a school wants to export data to Atomwide to simplify the administration of USO accounts and be able to use services such as AutoText, the release of MIS data needs to be authorised.
When USO-AutoUpdate is installed and configured to work with a school's MIS, reports need to be activated via the support site before data can be exported to Wavenet Education. This is usually the responsibility of the Head Teacher. However, any Head Teachers who are unwilling or unable to use the support site have the option of asking their LA advisors to do it on their behalf.
LA advisors can ask the Service Desk to add this permission level to their user profiles by raising a support case. This will allow the LA advisor to act on behalf of all Head Teachers within the LA but it will not prevent the Head Teachers who want to control their own MIS data from doing it themselves.
|
LA SMS Administrator By default, configurable by the Service Desk |
The SMS Administrator is the only type of user with the ability to allocate purchased message credits to individual schools within the LA. This is done via the AutoText > Configure Settings page on the support site.
Other types of users, including Super Users who do not have the SMS Administrator permissions enabled, will be able to access this page on a read-only basis. The SMS Administrator may not be the person who purchases message credits for the LA and a Super User is not automatically an SMS Administrator.
|
SMS Sender Configurable by LA Power Users and Super Users |
A user with SMS Sender permissions is able to see the AutoText tab and to utilise its functionality. Users with any staff role within a school can have SMS Sender permissions added to their profiles by their LA advisors.
SMS Sender permissions are also linked to View Secure MIS Data permissions.
Users with View Secure MIS Data permissions enabled will be able to view contacts' names, relationship to pupil, mobile numbers and email addresses when sending messages.
Users without View Secure MIS Data permissions will not see any contact information for pupils. When sending texts, these senders will see only the pupils' names and class or year.
|
View pupil passwords Configurable by LA Super Users |
The View pupil passwords permission level can be added to any staff account to allow that staff user to view the passwords of all pupils in a school via the interface provided on the support site. This will not allow the member of staff to view the passwords of any other staff members.
|
View Secure MIS Data Configurable by LA Power Users and Super Users. |
A user with View Secure MIS Data permissions has the ability to view what is classed as "secure data" via the Wavenet Education support site. Such data includes the names, numbers and email addresses of pupils' parents or guardians.
Most frequently, users with the role of Nominated Contact will have the ability to view MIS data though other staff members can be given this privilege. SMS Senders, for instance, may be granted permission to view secure data when sending messages to pupils' contacts, allowing them to see contacts' details.
This permission level can be added to a user's account by an LA Advisor.
The View Secure MIS Data permissions affect a person's ability to access information via the support site only. A school staff member can access a school's MIS directly to view required data at the discretion of the Head Teacher.
