What is RAv3?
RAv3 is a dedicated Remote Access system based upon Cisco technologies but integrated with USO for additional security. Its main purpose is to offer users a secure SSL tunnel through which staff can connect to the school networks.
RAv3 allows non-technical staff to connect securely into their school’s local network through an easy-to-use web interface which provides a clientless SSL VPN or a through dedicated desktop application using an SSL VPN client. All authentication is done using their familiar USO credentials with the option of integrating OTP tags for heightened security.
Different levels of external access to a school’s network can be configured for users via the USO Support Site.
To get started with using RAv3 within LGfL the following are required:
•The school must have a live LGfL connection
•The Headteacher must log into the support site, go the the Remote Access Resources page under the Service Desk tab and tick the box the enable RAv3 for the school.
Once this is done settings can be configured for users.
Configuring remote access settings
RAv3 settings are configured by Nominated Contacts via the support site.

The client (destination) machines must also be configured correctly by a network administrator to ensure incoming connections are accepted.

Configuration options are available to Nominated Contacts only.

Configuring school-issued devices to be used off-site
In schools where Windows-based machines are given to staff for working at home, it is possible to configure the machines to connect directly to the school's network via a VPN even before the user has logged into Windows.
When users subsequently log into Windows, they will be connecting directly to the school's domain controller rather than logging in to a local machine.
