Why do I have to supply a date of birth when requesting a new staff account?
The date of birth is an essential field for differentiating between two or more different USO accounts where users have identical or very similar names. As staff don't have any other means of identification, without a date of birth it is difficult to administer staff accounts, especially when staff change jobs and need to be associated with a new school.
When faced with users with similar names, a date of birth helps eliminate confusion and maintain security by ensuring the right user is given the correct level of access to a school's system.
Any users who supply a false date of birth will create chaos in the system and create extra work for their school's system administrators who will have to resolve conflicting or incorrectly associated accounts. This is particularly important and apparent when synchronising USO user accounts with the school's chosen MLE/VLE.
