What does MigrateUser do?
If a school wants to keep its existing user accounts but modify them so that the username and password get changed to their USO equivalents (rather than creating brand new accounts for users) then the MigrateUser tool must be used to update each affected user account.
How to use the MigrateUser tool
1.Request the latest version of MigrateUser from Wavenet Education via a support case. The tool will be provided to you along with a secret key which is needed to run the tool.
2.Make sure you have a list of users you wish to migrate from their current AD accounts to USO accounts.
3.Open the zip file, provided by Wavenet Education, on the server where the home areas are located.
4.The first time you run the tool you will be asked to enter the secret key that was provided by Wavenet Education.
5.Run the following line to migrate the user:
migrateuser.exe <old username> <USO username>
For example for a Croydon user:
migrateuser.exe jbloggs jbloggs1.306
6.The logon name and password of the existing AD account will be changed to match their USO credentials. The home area will also be renamed to match the USO account name (e.g. jbloggs1.306)
Can the MigrateUser tool still be used if the home areas are currently shared on another server?
No. This has to be run on the server on which USOSync is to be run and the server where the home areas are stored (i.e. the same place).
MigrateUser or USOSync can not move folders between different servers. If this is the case, the school must copy the home areas to the server on which USOSync is to be installed and make sure the users' home areas are mapped to that server within the AD.
